Amitoj Singh Bhogal



Amitoj is a guitarist residing in Edmonton, Canada. He grew up in the family where classical music was part of ambience. So, it was not strange when he picked up a toy guitar to keep up with his brother. Soon he realized that it was not a weapon of destruction and started music training at the age of seven learning western styles of guitar. He first learnt acoustic guitar and popular music. As the years progressed, he started playing western classical music and Indian music. His Indian classical music training is purely self-taught. Amitoj is capable of playing any of these styles almost seamlessly, whether it's his acoustic or electric guitar.

Amitoj has participated in many compititions, such as the Kiwanis music festival,Future Fest & community shows, and won many of them. His creativity has no bounds, he plays lots of western classical pieces with tabla keeping Indian Classical Music rythem cycles, showing true nature of the World Music. He has accompanied with many local musicians as well as visiting musicians from abroad. Amitoj was integral part of the Fall Concert series in 2004 when he accompanied renowned santoorist Kiranpal Singh, his brother Rohan Singh and Dr. Seema Ganatra. Amitoj volunteers his time playing guitar at many local functions or fundraisers.

His raportoire is full of western music, Punjabi folklore and traditional compositions of North India. His favourite musicians include, Jagjit Singh, Shahid Parvez, John McLaughlin and Kiranpal Singh. Amitoj has great sense of humor and is avid cummunicator on and off the stage, he keeps his fellow musicians in close knit group. Currently, he is studying at Ross Sheppard high school in the IB programme.
